Much love and laughter have departed. With profound sadness but the utter joy of his being the soul of their life, the Muniz family announces the passing of the family’s head, Peter Muniz, who had been hospitalized at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Peter was born to Phillip and Rosemarie Muniz in New York and was reared in Valley Stream, Long Island. A graduate of Saint Agnes High School in Rockville Centre, he excelled in sports and formed lifelong relationships, foremost with Nancy Clare, who would become his wife of fifty-one years. At Saint John’s University Peter earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. At the university he was an active campus member, athlete, and all-around good sport. Peter loved laughter and more than provided his share.
Professionally, he pursued a career in sales. Married in 1972, the couple relocated to Dennis, Massachusetts It was on Cape Cod that they started their family. Almost immediately, Peter involved himself in community affairs, expending much time and energy through the local Rotary and Our Lady of the Cape Parish. Passionate and loving he assiduously divided his time between family and business ventures that included radio, marketing, and real estate. Never one to imagine, much less, consider retirement, he spent the last of his career as part of the Foran organization. His professional friendships meant the world to him.
His passions ran both broad and deep. If formed as a hierarchy, they would be: family, friendship, career, sports....and a good joke told more than once. He was a stalwart presence at his children’s events, the in-house humorist at family gatherings. In the fall, weekends meant football and jaunts with Nancy, even as simple as a long drive to run errands that were only minutes away. The drives meant he had more time to amuse her. Anyone who ever knew Peter Muniz understood that somewhere in conversation, whether meaningful or inconsequential, a joke would be packaged and there would be more than one.
A good cook who would whip up a meal anytime for anyone. A beach-goer, A boater, subjecting his boating cousins to endless rounds of levity sufficient to make them consider mutiny. A traveler who so enjoyed the Caribbean as well as weekends in the Berkshires. The first to show up whenever help was needed or when he sensed a helping hand just might lighten someone’s load. People loved Peter because he loved them.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, his three children-Bevin, Anthony, and Chantel; four grandchildren-Ben, Josh, Aiden, and Olivia. A trove of cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews too many to list. Who loved him.
The family would like to thank the superbly talented and dedicated staff at MGH, especially to those providers in Ellison 9 and Blake 8 Units, for their unstinting care, compassion, and determination to provide for his being. And, Peter did make them laugh.
Peter's family will receive visitors at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis, on Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2-5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church, Stony Brook Rd., Brewster on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: the Rotary Club of Harwich Dennis PO Box 188, South Dennis, MA 02660
