He was born to the late Norman Benoit and Margaret Patrowicz, Dec. 11, 1942, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Lawrence High in 1961 and went on to Cushing Academy on a football scholarship. He then completed 2 years at Cape Cod Community College where he met his wife of 57 years, Karen.
Skip retired from NSTAR Electric (now Eversource) in 1998 after 33 years of service. Skip was a lineman for many years, ultimately retiring as a Sr. Supervisor in the Yarmouth line department. He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Dennis.
Skip was an active member in youth sports, coaching many local kids in baseball and hockey. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed and open his home to anyone who wished to stop in. To some, he was considered as a second father. Skip treated everyone he met as a new friend and was dubbed “the Mayor” by his family.
Skip enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time at “camp” in Maine, and watching his grandchildren compete in sporting events. Skip and Karen rarely missed seeing a grandchild play a game. He enjoyed going to yard sales and finding that one ‘item’ that someone mentioned in a passing conversation and gifting that item to that person. But Skip was the happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends around the kitchen table, or by the pool.
Skip is survived by his wife Karen, his son Robert and wife Donna of Dennis, his daughter Rachel and husband John McGaffigan of Dennis, brother Kenneth Benoit of Falmouth, sister-in-law Elaine Hill of Dennis, and brother-in-law Andy Hill and his wife Gay of Texas. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren which he adored: Jessica, Ryan, Sarah, Anna, Joshua, Ava, and Kayla.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to Dennis Rescue. A wake will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, 8/29 at Doane Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis. The funeral will be at 11am on Tuesday, 8/30 at Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis immediately following.
