Mary E. (Fallon) Scheffler passed away peacefully at her home in Southport, NC on August 17, 2023. Mary was born August 9,1929 to George and Marguerite (DesChamps) Fallon of Jamaica Plain, where she grew up with her two sisters, Jacqueline (Jackie) Rockwood and Marguerite (Mimi) DeMarco. As a child, she spent many summers in Orleans, MA and fell in love with Cape Cod. Mary graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and the Sargent College at Boston University, where she majored in physical education. After graduation, Mary accepted a position teaching physical education in Calais, ME. She also coached the Calais girls’ basketball team and led them to their first undefeated season. After two years in Calais, Mary took on a new adventure and accepted a position teaching physical education in New Jersey. Mary returned to Jamaica Plain after the death of her father and became a licensed funeral director so she could run the family business, JD Fallon and son Funeral Home. Mary eventually returned to teaching physical education and worked in the Boston Public School system until she had her children, Mary Ellen and Joseph. She relocated to Dennisport in 1970 where she became a licensed realtor, worked in the assessing department for the Town of Dennis, and participated in several boards and committees until she retired in 1994 to help raise her grandson, Ray. In 2004 Mary relocated to Wilmington NC where she continued to play an active role in Ray's life. She then moved to Southport NC with her daughter Mary Ellen in 2021. Mary returned to Cape Cod every summer after moving to NC.
Mary is survived by her children MaryEllen (Mell) Densmore and partner Susan of Southport NC, Joseph (Jay) Scheffler and wife Patricia (Trish) of Stow MA, grandson Raymond (Ray) Densmore and wife Sally of Southport NC, great grandchildren Charlee Rae and Harrison Densmore of Southport NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary was most proud of her children and grandson along with her great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but always with us in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, August 30th from 10 AM to 12 PM at Doane Beal & Ames funeral home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis.
