Marie “Janet” Ash (Donahue) of Brewster, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 20th at the age of 85. Janet was born in South Boston to the late John and Marie Donahue, moved to North Weymouth at age13 and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1956. Janet became an X-ray technician and worked at Deer Island Hospital and Brockton Hospital.
She met Robert “Bob” Ash at the Lithuanian Club in Boston where they married in 1962. They moved to Hingham where they raised their 3 children Steven, Kristen and Jeff. She enjoyed being a stay at home mom to her 3 kids and was active in the community. She was active in the Rhododendron Club, Garden Club, Hingham Ladies Club, Co-op and enjoyed playing cards for pennies with her girlfriends. Janet loved to cook and was known for her delicious meals.
Janet and Bob became snowbirds and shared their time between their beloved home in Brewster, Ma and Port Charlotte, FL. In Florida she loved spending time with friends, they all took turns hosting parties enjoying her apple martinis and mudslides. They loved having the grandkids visit and fishing off the dock.
Janet loved the cape where she was very social and loved lunch bunch group with her friends, Red Hat Club, Nauset Newcomers Club, and continued to enjoy Rhododendron Club, Garden Club, and playing Mahjong. Whether she was hunting for antiques or trying new recipes she did it impeccably dressed. She had a love for the theater and symphony would go to Boston or NYC any time she an opportunity to do so. Janet became an avid reader later in life and would read daily for hours any book she could get her hands on. She would light up when her children and grandchildren came to visit.
Predeceased by her husband Bob of 56 years, Janet is survived by her son Steven Ash and wife Barbara of Merritt Island, FL; daughter Kristen Hammond of Newtown, CT; and Jeffrey Ash and wife Emily of Brookhaven, GA; brother Paul Donahue and wife Valerie of Canada. Lovingly known as Gree to her five grandchildren Reed, Ashley, Emily, Kyle and Eric who brought great joy to her life as well as many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
