Joe was born November 17, 1952 in Boston MA, the fifth child of John Floyd and Doris (Greene) Floyd. In 1981, he married his best friend, Susan Daniels, and they celebrated 41 years of life, love, adventure and endless laughter together.
Joe graduated from the former Boston Technical High School and moved to the Berkshires in 1977 where he raised his family. He dedicated 45 years to working for the former New England Telephone Company, retiring in 2015. During this time, he was an avid volunteer for the Telephone Pioneers, with his favorite event being the annual children’s Christmas party. He was so incredibly proud to obtain his bachelor's degree later in life from Pace University in 2010.
Affectionately known as “Big Joe,” he had the true gift of gab and made friends with ease everywhere he went. He was known for his big smile with dimples, infectious laugh and piercing blue eyes. Bringing a smile to people’s faces was the true essence of Joe Floyd. He loved all animals but had a special spot in his heart for dachshunds and owned many in his lifetime. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, which was evident by his love of shamrocks, Claddagh rings, the color green and his favorite scally caps. Joe’s favorite times spent were at the beach and with his family, especially summers down the Cape where he was able to purchase his and Sue’s dream home in 2018. He loved nothing more than having his family and friends gather there together and share in his favorite pastime of laying out in the sun and swimming in the ocean. Joe loved his wife and children with all his heart, but his greatest blessing was being the proud Papa to his six grandchildren Michela, Camden, Avery, Liam, Sophia and Lilly. He beamed with joy at any opportunity he was given to brag about them.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Susan M. (Daniels) Floyd; his four children; Katie M. Fucillo and her husband Stephen of Stoughton, Jennifer E. Dumas and her husband Christopher of Whitinsville, Joseph D. Floyd of Lenox, and Jacqueline M. Faherty and her husband William of Scituate; four siblings Andrea Doucette (Canton), Doris Morrison (Wrentham), Jack Floyd (Falmouth), Monica Babcock (Rockland), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Doris (Greene) Floyd and his sister Jaye Blume. We all loved Joe so much and will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 9:00-10:30 am at Doane Beal & Ames in South Dennis, MA. Immediately following will be an 11 am funeral mass at Our Lady of The Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road Brewster, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to your local animal shelter or rescue organization.
