John Joseph Young

John J. Young, of West Dennis, MA, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on December 7, 2022. He was 76 years old. John was born in Boston on February 26, 1946. He was the son of the late Patrick and Alma (Aries) Young and raised in West Roxbury, MA.

John was married for 41 unforgettable years to the love of his life, the late Maureen (Scanlon) Young. He is survived by his children, Annmarie of South Dennis and grandsons, Matthew Scruggs of South Dennis MA and Timothy Scruggs of East Longmeadow, MA; Michael and his wife Margaret of West Barnstable, MA; Kevin and granddaughters Norah and Molly of Marstons Mills, MA; and Stephen of West Dennis, MA.

John is also survived by his brothers, Joseph and Jeffrey Young and sisters, Patricia Young and Barbara Donnelly as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James "Jimmy" Young.

John will be missed by his PCA and friend, Amanda, who took exceptional good care of John for the past five years. They had a special bond and we will be forever grateful to her for the laughter and joy she brought to his life.

John and his family lived in West Roxbury until moving to Cape Cod in 1984. He worked at Westinghouse as a machinist for many years.

John will be remembered as a true family man, for his great devotion to his late wife Maureen, and the joy he experienced when spending time with his children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. John was an avid sports fan and loved all the New England teams including Nascar. He also enjoyed listening to his Irish music, specifically on Saturday afternoons after playing his weekly card game with his friends. We will truly miss him and his sense of humor (one liners).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rte. 134, South Dennis, MA on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 2-5 pm.

Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 9:00 AM to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Route 28, West Harwich, MA. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Route 134, South Dennis, MA. Donations in John's honor may be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, VNA Hospice.
