SOUTH DENNIS – John J. “Jack” Sheedy, 75, a retired Cape Cod realtor and disabled American veteran, died Monday at his home in South Dennis in the company of his family after a year-long illness.
He was the husband of Sandra J, Sheedy. They were married for 51 years and lived on Cape Cod for the past 30 years after summering in Dennis for two decades while living in Braintree.
Mr. Sheedy was born in Boston and grew up in Roxbury and in North Quincy (Wollaston). He graduated from North Quincy High School, where he excelled in various sports.
After high school, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific in Okinawa and Japan, and achieving the rank of Corporal. While in the Marines, he was a standout on the 1st AmTrac Battalion softball team. Later he attended Northeastern University, and worked for the Keystone Company of Boston where he was an employee benefit plans director.
He later worked for Bestgen Real Estate on Cape Cod as a salesperson and manager. He opened his own real estate company, Eagle Real Estate, in Dennisport, in the late-1970’s and after a successful career retired in his early 50’s. He and his wife enjoyed many years of retirement together, spending a number of winters in Venice, Florida and in the Bahamas. Mr. Sheedy played in the Cape Cod Senior Softball League, where he was an all-star shortstop.
Besides his wife, Mr. Sheedy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and David Cerruti of Scituate, a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Adriana Sheedy of South Dennis, and two grandchildren, Melissa and Gregory Sheedy of South Dennis.
Friends may call from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134 in South Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.
