Ed was born and grew up, in Pittsfield, MA. As a young child he developed a love for sports which resonated throughout his life. He played a variety of sports over the years and was an avid athlete when graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1970. After high school, he went on to receive his degree in education from North Adams College. He started his career in Pembroke, NH, teaching 6th grade math, science, and social studies, and quickly realized how rewarding it was to be part of his students formative years. His passion for teaching came on quick and never left. In 1986, Ed and his family moved to Cape Cod and laid roots in Forestdale. He then took a position with the Sandwich Public School system, again teaching 6th grade, which he continued to do until retirement. He also spent many summers working part-time between the greens of Cranberry Valley and Wianno Golf Club, which fit right in with his love for the game of golf.
Ed wasn't the biggest story teller but if he was, he would have had an endless list of special memories made with friends and family over his lifetime. Family was always important to him, especially the kids. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews when his son was a child, and eventually their kids too, as they got older. Watching and keeping up with sports was a big part of his regular routine. He also enjoyed soaking up some sun at the beach, fishing for stripers on the boat, being out in nature, taking long walks with the dogs, golfing with his buddies, a good cigar, and spending quality time with those he cared about.
Ed had a very big heart, put others first, was easy going, funny, and generous. He possessed a great personality with a unique sense of humor that you just couldn't forget. Ed made everyone feel at home and his bright blue eyes would light up any room he walked into. He will be missed by so many people who knew him and were part of his life.
Ed is survived by his only child, Jeffrey Paris and spouse Christopher Hedetniemi of Dennis MA, sister Patricia (Paris) and spouse Kenneth Robitille of Onset MA, brother David and spouse Elizabeth (Lyons) Paris of Plymouth MA, brother Paul and spouse Anne Paris of Bonita Springs FL, his best friend Michael Lehane of Falmouth MA, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Carol as well as his parents, Edward and Rosemary, Paris.
With respect to Ed's wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life scheduled soon and the scattering of ashes will be done privately. In lieu of flowers and consideration of Ed's love for animals, please consider making a donation in his name to the Animal Rescue League of Brewster MA or the MSPCA of Centerville MA.
