Donald R. Tarbell

Donald R. Tarbell, of Pocasset, known to his family and friends as Russ, sadly passed away early Tuesday morning, August 27 at the age of 82 after a short illness. Russ was born in Newton, Mass on September 22, 1941, son of the late Donald K. Tarbell and Marylouise (Chandler) Tarbell.

Russ grew up in Wayland, where he established a lifelong group of friends. He graduated from Wayland High School. Russ was also a member of the National Guard. Russ became a Certified Safety Professional, working in construction, as well as other businesses, for over 50 years. Russ made Cape Cod his home year-round. He loved being outdoors and hiking, biking and boating. Fitness and health were especially important to him. He was an avid rower and a rowing instructor in his early years. He competed in the Head of the Charles and he organized the Basset Island Regatta. You would find Russ out walking the golf course, cross-country skiing if there was snow on the ground or biking along the canal. He enjoyed clamming and the annual lobster bake on Bassetts Island. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to many different National Parks and visiting Historical Sites. There was also a yearly trip to Hershey, PA for the annual Antique Automobile Club of America swap meet. He was a skilled mechanic with an interest in restoring antique cars. Russ was a lifelong learner and mentor to many, always having the best advice and the right tool for the job.

Russ is survived by his sisters, Edith Badr of Nashua, New Hampshire and Sally Tarbell of West Dennis, Massachusetts. He is survived by his close friend Donna Parker and many other close friends, personally and in the community. He will be deeply missed.
