David Warren Peters, 86, of South Dennis, MA and formerly of North Hampton, NH passed away on May 17, 2023. Dave grew up in Dedham, MA, son of George and Muriel (Nay) Peters. He was the eldest of four boys, and became the head of the family when his Dad passed away at a young age. Although Dave wasn’t one to show a lot of emotion, he loved his brothers fiercely and would do anything for them. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Alan R. Peters (Carolyn), and Bruce L. Peters (Nancy), and leaves his brother Kenneth G. Peters (Cindy).
Dave and his former wife Floris E. Peters had three daughters who he adored (even though he didn’t get the son he wanted.): Tracy Peters Rud (Tim); Heather Anne Peters (Kelly); and Kristen Peters de Oliveira (Ed). He leaves five beautiful grandchildren whom he was so proud of and loved very much. Charles Dolloff (Jenn); Thomas Dolloff (Kelly); Gabriel de Oliveira (Haley); Sofia de Oliveira; and Katelyn Rud. He was the best father-in-law too; Tim, Kelly, and Ed meant so much to him.
Dave enjoyed life. He worked to live. He didn’t live to work. That’s not to say he didn’t enjoy his career in the water works industry, because he very much did. Sometimes too much. He leaves behind a legacy of trade show antics throughout New England.
Dave had a number of favorite things. Dogs were numero uno. And it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he loved dogs more than people. Every dog in the neighborhood made a bee line for Dave’s house as they knew where to get a cookie. Spooky, Buddie, Dewey, Albus, and Lily were so lucky to have had Dave.
The beach (nude, preferably) and kayaking were a close second. Cold Storage Beach and Great Pond on Cape Cod were two of Dave’s favorite spots and where he spent much of his time in retirement.
Hockey was another one of Dave’s loves. He played until he was in his 50s, including a year at Northeastern. He was the first one to clear off the neighborhood pond when the ice froze and was an avid Bruins fan his entire life. He watched their best season ever to the end; how fitting that it was near the end of his time with us.
Another favorite of Dave’s was LL Bean, especially a deal from the factory store. People up and down the East Coast have received gifts from Dave of LL Bean bags with random monograms on them. Continuing the theme of a good deal, he discovered estate sales later in life and filled his basement with rocking chairs, lamps, baskets, and more.
Dave was a true friend. He kept in touch. He’d do anything that you needed. He went to funerals and paid his respects. He had a low tolerance for too much talking, but he didn’t hold that against anyone. He spent his last years in Asack Acres surrounded by wonderful neighbors who became like family. Joan Herlihy, Joe Capalbo, and the Scapicchio family held a special place in Dave’s heart.
Dave will be buried at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on June 13 at 11:30 am. A celebration to remember Dave will be held at the Sagamore Inn, 1131 Sandwich Road in Bourne immediately following. Please RSVP to [email protected] to ensure we have enough food and drink, which Dave would want.
