David L. Malloy, Sr., 85, (formerly of Brockton, MA) passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 2, 2022, at Mayflower Nursing Home in Yarmouth MA. Mr. Malloy was the eldest son of the late Hartley L. and Mary (Galvin) Malloy. David was a devoted husband to Marie M. (Morrissey) Malloy for 59 years.
Born in Boston, MA, David grew up in Somerville, MA. He attended Somerville High School where he ran track and hurdles. After high school, David joined the Air Force where he served until 1959 and continued in the Air Force Reserves until 1963.
David and his wife Marie married in 1963 and moved from Somerville to Brockton, MA in 1964 to raise a family. While working a full-time job at Sylvania in Waltham, MA, David earned his Bachelors Degree at Northeastern University’s night school. Mr. Malloy then worked for Sheraton in Boston for many years. Following that, David worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Director for the MA State Post Audit Committee until his retirement.
David was a communicant of Our Lady of Rosary in Stoughton, MA from 1964 until the church closed in the early 2000s. David was active in the parish – serving as a middle school CCD teacher, usher, and treasurer of the Parish Council.
During his retirement, David enjoyed being PAPA Thursday, taking day trips to Mohegan, and traveling with family to Bermuda, Nevada, and Maryland among other places.
David leaves his wife, Marie M. (Morrissey) Malloy, his daughter Kathleen M. Golden and her husband Christopher of Taunton, MA, his sons David L. Malloy Jr.of Cape Cod, MA, Mark J. Malloy and his wife Caryn Malloy of Arlington, MA, and his much-loved grandsons Harry and Gerry Malloy. David also leaves his sister Mary and her husband Edward Izzo of Merrimac, NH; his brother Paul and his wife Susan Malloy of Laurel, Maryland; and his sister-in-law Carol Malloy of New Castle, NH. In addition, he leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and extended Morrissey family.
David was predeceased by his sister, Judith (Malloy) McNamara, and his brother Richard Malloy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St., Centerville, MA on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
