Cheryl was born on October 19, 1945, to her loving parents Roy and Pat Jones in Concord, Massachusetts. She is survived by her husband, Dean Atwood, her daughter Megan Killion, her son in law John Killion, her sister Tracy Harris, many nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren Riley, Hayden, Everett and Oliver.
Cheryl dedicated her life to the service of God. Everything that she ever pursued, she did faithfully as she felt called into the service of her Lord. She spent her childhood living in various places with her parents and sister, Tracy, including Weymouth, Massachusetts, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania and Hingham, Massachusetts. She attended UMass Amherst where she majored in English until she felt God directed her to switch majors to Early Childhood Education. After college she taught in special needs classrooms in Springfield, Massachusetts and on Cape Cod.
She later went back to school to achieve her Master’s Degree and worked for Early Intervention as well as the state providing services for children with disabilities. Years later she started the Cape Cod Therapeutic Riding Clinic where she met her husband, Dean. She and her family dedicated many years to the Special Olympics and working with families of those with disabilities. Cheryl was also a Lay Leader and Assistant Pastor at her Church, Northside United Methodist Church. She attended seminary and shared the love of Christ with everyone she met.
Cheryl’s home was always open to anyone. She always had a listening ear and an understanding heart. She loved her God, children and animals above all else. Friend, teacher and mother to all who knew her, she had many non-biological children that she raised along with her biological daughter. If the only thing anyone ever learned about being a Christian was that Cheryl was one, they received a wonderful lesson in what it meant to love others. There are few people as compassionate, dedicated and wonderful as Cheryl. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by many people.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 5 at Northside United Methodist Church, 701 Airline Rd., Brewster, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the World Wildlife Federation or UMCOR.
