Richard E. “Dick” Goulart, 82, of Dartmouth passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 after a brief period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (McKenney) Goulart with whom he would have celebrated 24 years of marriage on September 18th.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Edward and Isabelle (Sylvia) Goulart, he was a lifelong area resident.
Dick had a strong work ethic and began a long and successful career as a union carpenter and foreman after graduating from New Bedford Vocational School. He would cap his work life prior to retirement with a near ten-year stint with Home Depot.
Dick’s passion was his time spent in local ocean waters on his power boat. An avid striped bass fisherman, he had a decades-long association with the Dartmouth Saltwater Anglers Fishing Club. He was well-known to his fellow boaters from his time docked at Concordia in Padanaram and then Popes Island in New Bedford.
Joyce would later become the focus of Dick’s boating life as they shared many journeys to Buzzards Bay locations such as Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, but their special locale was Cuttyhunk, where they made many cherished memories.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his children, James Goulart and his wife Nancy of Assonet, Robert Goulart and his wife Maura of Springfield, Richard Goulart and his wife Debra of Dartmouth, and Deborah Goulart of New Bedford; a sister, Linda Lanosa and her husband Gary of Florida; six grandchildren, Dante, Kyle, Rachel, Jill, Ben and Ethan; one great granddaughter, Wilder Rose; sister-in-law Carol Rambo; several nieces and nephews; and his very much adored yellow lab, Honey.
His visitation will be Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com
