Renate Maria (Scholz) Perry, 87, of Dartmouth Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2023. Born in the German province of Silesia, in the city of Breslau, on October 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Scholz and Gertrud (Tannigel) Scholz. She was the sister of the late Joachim Scholz.
At the end of World War II, Renate and her mother were settled in Landshut, Germany where she met her husband Donald E. Perry, who was stationed there in the US Army. Donald and Renate were married in 1954 and she came to Massachusetts with her husband to raise their family. For Renate, her family came first, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to ensure their comfort both emotionally and physically. From nutritious home-cooked meals to frequent days at the beach, Renate was ready to provide encouragement and support to her family and anyone in need. She always saw the best in people and turned any situation into a positive experience.
Renate loved to garden, and her yard and home were filled with flowers. Her forty year passion for bonsai was especially important. Her love of nature and especially animals was constant and her many dogs and cats over the years made her very happy. She always said her dogs were the best motivators to get outside in any weather for a walk in the woods or along the beach. She loved to sew and many a fashionable outfit was created for her girls or herself. Round Hill Beach was her year-round happy place and many hours were spent there reading and swimming with her family. The grandkids loved to be dunked or to dunk Omi in the water. Her grandchildren kept her going strong in her later years and she loved them dearly.
Renate was deeply religious at home and as a parishioner at St. Julie Billiart Church. Her strong faith in God sustained her through difficult times and gave her much joy and gratefulness through the good.
Renate is survived by her husband of 69 years Donald E. Perry, of Dartmouth MA; her children: Donald A. Perry, of Westport MA, Donna M. (Perry) Spencer and her late husband Lewis Spencer, of Dartmouth MA, Bruce A. Perry, of Tucson AZ, Susan E. (Perry) Dulong and her husband Ronald Dulong, of Dartmouth MA, Ira E. Perry and his wife Lesley Perry, of Dartmouth MA; her grandchildren: Sarah Spencer, Alden Spencer, Megan Dulong, Callie Dulong, Cameron Perry, Conner Perry, all of Dartmouth MA and her great grandchild Landen Spencer of New Bedford MA.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA, on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery, near the Rockland Street entrance.
