Michael Patrick Gorman, 40 years old, formerly of Wareham and Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2020 from sleep apnea. Mike was born in Torrance, CA to Paul and Kristine Gorman. He was predeceased by his father in 2008. Michael leaves his stepfather and mother, Ernie and Kris Bourgeois; his brother, Geoffrey P. Gorman; his beloved 7 year old daughter, Violet Harper Gorman; Violet’s mother, Katy Whittingham; his partner, Laura MacConaill and her daughter, Olivia Kelly Smith. In addition, Mike has left behind many, loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He LOVED his family; family was everything to him, and having a daughter was his life; he told Violet that she was “his heart.”
Michael graduated from Fair Haven Union High School in 1997, in Fair Haven, Vermont. He worked as an independent contractor, primarily in telecommunications. His passion for music was unrivaled; he enjoyed playing his drums and attending live music with his loved ones. His love of New England sports and his unwavering commitment will live on through his family and friends. Michael was a talented photographer; he won three photographic awards and was published in several journals.
The family wants you all to know that Mike’s death due to sleep apnea had not been previously diagnosed. Before his death, his life was in a better place than it had been in a while, and he bloomed with his “3 girls” - Violet, Laura and Olivia.
As a means of a brief education about sleep apnea (SA), it is an involuntary cessation of breathing while the person is asleep. There are various types of SA and a variety of interventions. SA is seen more in men than women. A major symptom of SA is loud snoring. Risk factors include being male, overweight, and over the age of 40. Untreated SA can cause high blood pressure, memory problems, and headaches. However, SA can be identified and treated. For more information on SA, please refer to this link: http://www.sleepapnea.org/learn/sleep-apnea/obstructive-sleep-apnea.
In lieu of flowers, would you please consider donating to a fund that will be established for Violet’s care and future education. Michael would appreciate knowing that family and friends helped to care for Violet in his absence.
