Martha V. Greene

Martha Louise (Valente) Greene, 84, of Dartmouth, MA passed away peacefully with family by her side Thursday, February 27, 2025, in Sacred Heart Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas M. Greene, Jr. with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 1, 1940, daughter of the late Frank W. Valente and Florence (Reily) Valente. Martha graduated from Dedham High School 1958 and Regis College in 1962 where she Majored in French. After marrying Thomas M. Greene Jr. November 22, 1964, they settled in South Dartmouth, MA to raise their family.

Mrs. Greene ran the fiscal office at New Bedford Child & Family Service for many years until her retirement. In her spare time, she was an avid reader, loved to garden, and her day was not complete without finishing The New York Times crossword puzzle. Martha loved traveling to Tucson, AZ to visit family.

She is survived by her children, Thomas M. Greene, III and his wife Kammie of Keene, NH and Lauren G. Desrosiers and her husband Stephen of South Dartmouth. Her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Patrick N. Thornton, Thomas M. Greene IV, Eva Louise Greene; her sister, Susan Valente Winters of Tucson, AZ; many nieces and nephews; and her companion, Henry L. Coon of Louisville, Kentucky. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy V. Hardisty of Tucson, AZ.

The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Sacred Heart Nursing Home for the compassion they showed for Martha during her battle with Dementia. Nurses Kim and Alyssa were incredible with our Mum.
