She leaves behind her partner Billy, her daughter Mariah, her father Jim, stepfather Goran, and Steven, Adam, and Joey - her brothers, and her nephew and nieces Jayden, Kyleigh, and Mackenzie, along with Billy’s sisters Faith, Heather, and their families.
Kristen was born to Joanne and Jim Lee on 2/5/1982 and was brought up as the only girl in a household of boys, and as such was as spoiled as her loving parents and brothers could make her. She grew up to be a strong-willed and independent woman, who took no guff from anyone.
When she and her brothers first came down to NJ, her father took her and her brothers on a tour of NYC. Kristen lingered at the doors of St Patrick’s Cathedral. The joke was that she didn’t want to go up in flames, or bring the Cathedral down. She was quite areligious.
Going to a restaurant, she was happiest if they had chicken fingers and fries. Or a good steak.
Kristen didn’t have a really easy life, but she always seemed to land on her feet. She wandered a bit, kinda lost, until she and Billy found each other. To us, it finally seemed as if Kristen had found what she was looking for. A man to love and make a home with. When she and Billy announced they were going to have a baby, we were all so happy. It seemed like the icing on her cake. We joked with her about the stories she’d be able to tell Mariah later on about how she was born in the middle of a pandemic. The midnight ride to the hospital in the middle of a snowstorm, and the entire department dressed in hazmat suits to help deliver Mariah. Of course the truth is nowhere near as dramatic. But it would’ve made for a good story.
Jim went gaga for his new granddaughter, as he did for all his grandkids. When he drove up to see her, Kristen, and Billy, even though travel wasn’t encouraged at the time, Jim was so ridiculously happy to have seen Mariah, it made all our hearts melt.
We are immensely grateful to Billy for making her last years so very happy, and for giving us a new granddaughter, and her brothers a niece, to spoil, as Kristen was spoiled by her loving family.
Billy’s family took Kristen to their heart. When the cancer started making it impossible for Kristen to care properly for Mariah, Billy’s sisters Faith and Heather stepped in and took care of Mariah. With their continued loving care, Mariah will grow up to hear stories of her mother, so that Kristen won’t be a stranger to Mariah.
Kristen was loved, and will be missed.
There is no better epitaph.
