Joel M. Feldman, age 78, born on April 30, 1945, in Reading, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed from this world on January 27, 2024, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, following a courageous battle with aggressive melanoma. Surrounded by the love of his family, he found peace in his final moments.
Born to Bernard and Hilda (Fishkin) Feldman, Joel's early years in Reading shaped the foundation of his character. His parents, who passed in 2015 and 2019, respectively, instilled in him the values of resilience, hard work, and compassion. Joel's enduring spirit and zest for life were a reflection of the love he received from his beloved parents.
Joel is survived by his devoted sisters, Sharon Feldman and Barbara Creal, Barbara’s husband Mark, and their sons Ryan and Justin who continue to reside in Pennsylvania. Their shared memories and familial bonds are a testament to the enduring strength of the Feldman family.
A proud Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War, Joel's commitment to duty and honor extended beyond his military service. A longtime resident of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Joel worked tirelessly as a paint estimator for many decades, leaving a legacy of professionalism and dedication. Even after his retirement in July 2023, Joel's work ethic remained steadfast, a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, with whom he shared many grand adventures. Their travels took them to enchanting destinations, including Hawaii, Paris, Alaska, and beyond, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. His son, Matthew Alexander Feldman, resides in Mechanicsburg, PA, with his husband Evan Gaetner. Joel is also survived by his stepson, Joseph McGuire, of Salem, MA, and his stepdaughter, Shannon McGuire, along with her husband Chad Perry and grandsons Ashton and Elias Perry, all residing in South Dartmouth, MA. Being a caring Zeyde to his grandsons was one of his greatest accomplishments.
Joel will be remembered for his distinctive laugh, his steadfastness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His impact on the lives of family and friends is immeasurable, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Massachusetts General Hospital, Beacon Hospice, Beyond Comfort private care, and the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for their compassionate care during Joel's journey.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Relatives and friends are invited.
A private family burial was held at Kesher Zion Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
