Janice “Jan” (Drolet) Young, 73, of South Dartmouth, died Thursday April 13, 2023 after a brief illness. Jan was known to many as a great cook and entertainer. She could often be found entertaining her friends and family at “Gram’s Cottage”, her family home in her beloved Bayview in South Dartmouth.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Harold and Ada (Andersen) Drolet, she resided in South Dartmouth for most of her life.
Jan worked as a Health Inspector for the Town of Dartmouth for many years prior to her retirement. Before becoming a Health Inspector she was a Server for many years at the former Huttleston House in Fairhaven. Many would dine there just to eat her table side Caesar salad.
A woman of many talents, in addition to her passion for cooking and entertaining, she was a skilled interior designer, a green thumbed gardener of both vegetables and flowers. Her garden was always pristine and admired by many.
She loved to travel with her friends and traveled most of Europe with her father. She also loved to ski and always had the appropriate ski attire, all matching of course. Known for an eye in fashion, Jan was always seen in the most current clothing and jewelry trends.
She was an animal lover, taking in many strays and providing them with their best life.
She is survived by her step-daughter Susan Coleman of RI, her sister-in-law Linda Drolet and her many close friends including Julie, Collette, Nick and Rob. She also leaves her grandsons Brandon and Devyn and beloved Shih Tzu, Brookie. She is the sister of the late Richard and Peter Drolet.
Her funeral and burial are private.
