Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. Tardif and Bertha (Jodoin) Tardif. Married to Louis for 62 years, Jackie spent most of her life living in Dartmouth.
Jackie was one of the first female volunteer firefighters for Dartmouth District 2 Fire Department (1974 – 1983). She was a member of the Allen’s Neck Women’s Club and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth. Jackie was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed, be it to the Lloyd Center for the Environment, St. Mary’s Church, community members, or family in need.
Hobbies included growing vegetables and flowers (which she and Louis shared with the community), reading, rug making, quilting, sewing, and refinishing furniture. Jackie also enjoyed collecting antiques, and playing cards. She was an excellent cook, and at family gatherings there were always at least two delicious homemade desserts. Being the consummate hostess, Jackie was always the last to sit at the table. Jackie also loved trips with the family, especially to visit relatives in Canada. A loving, caring and all-around amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Jackie loved spending time with family. She had a smile that could warm and brighten any room.
She is survived by her children, Robert Bernier (Shirley), Susanne Bernier-Robinson (James), Jo-Ann Cornell (Chris) and Andrea Floyd (John); her brother, Conrad Tardif (Cindy); her sister, Elaine Bernier; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late David Bernier.
Please consider a donation in her memory to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby St., Hingham, MA 02043.
Private services are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
