Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late George Mello and Dorothy May (DeMoranville) Sylvia.
George and his family lived in Tiverton and Dartmouth for many years. He was a graduate of Dartmouth High School, class of 1970 and attended S.M.U. where he studied psychology.
George loved horses and often showed them. He showed Morgan horses for Mabel Owen in Dartmouth. Trips to see the horses at the Eastern States Exposition (Big E) and camping were most enjoyable for George and his friends.
George moved to Acushnet over 40 years ago and started his Labrador retriever breeding business, Mello Labs. His dogs were his life. He loved caring for his dogs and taking care of his yard. This gave George great peace and happiness.
George had a successful career as a caregiver at Southeast Residential Services, tending to those in need.
He was a man of great compassion and touched the lives of many who will miss him dearly. George touched the hearts of those around him because of his generosity. His strong faith carried him through life’s journey and now he is in the hand of God.
He is survived by his sister, Christine L. Medeiros of Dartmouth and several cousins and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John V. Medeiros, III.
