Arthur J. Thibodeau, III, 78, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Claire (Moniz) Thibodeau with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, the only son of the late Emile “Arthur” and Simone (Bouchard) Thibodeau, he lived in Dartmouth most of his life. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Parish.
Arthur was a school teacher in the Somerset Public Schools, at the middle and high school levels for 36 years. He enjoyed sharing his love of English, History, and Reading with his students while teaching those subjects. He was also a drama coach for several years and he especially enjoyed putting on the comedic productions with the drama club.
He leaves his beloved wife Claire and his two children Danielle Thibodeau of Acushnet and Brad Thibodeau of New London, CT. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Judi Michel of Naples, FL; a niece Renee Zampaglione of Somers, NY; a nephew, Chad Michel of Costa Mesa, CA. He has three great nephews; many close friends and family members.
Arthur and Claire enjoyed traveling together following retirement and visited several countries. He also liked going to local restaurants with family and friends and he loved watching the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox.
Arthur was involved in preserving his local town’s environment, especially Cornell Pond and he was a member of a civic organization named POND. He was on the Cornell Pond Advisory Committee and was an active Town Meeting Member in Dartmouth for many years. Arthur was very passionate about poetry and was a poet in a local poetry organization, the Bartleby Poets. He also loved fishing on Cornell Pond and Lake Noquochoke for largemouth bass.
Visiting hours Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial is private.
