

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria dos Santos (Oliveira) Policarpo, his two daughters and their spouses, Lucy and Jose Bernardo and Anne Marie and Tome Furtado, and his three grandchildren, Corey Antonio Bernardo and Paul Alexander Furtado (his “queridos”), and Stacey Anne Furtado (his "querida").
Antonio was born in Salga, Sȃo Miguel, Azores where he lived and served in the army until his opportunity to immigrate to Canada arrived in 1954. From there he worked in both the mining and railroad industry before his much anticipated arrival to America in 1960, where he worked in the textile, fish processing and construction industries.
Antonio challenged himself to learn the English language and study US history in order to achieve his dream of becoming a United States citizen. This dream came to fruition on February 10,1967. He enjoyed playing a good game of cards and being in the company of good friends, delicious food, good wine, and his family. He was also a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth.
He was the son of the late Tobias and Juaquina Policarpo. He was the brother of the late Manuel Policarpo of Salga, Sȃo Miguel, Azores, Americo Policarpo of Winnipeg, Canada, Tobias Policarpo, Maria dos Reis Sabino, Alexandrinha Tavares and his twin sister Amelia Correia all of New Bedford, and Cecilia Melo and Sofia Policarpo, of Salga, Sȃo Miguel, Azores.
His Funeral will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 9:00 am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth followed by burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 5 to 7 pm.
