He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 32 years, Sandra Weaver-Rushbrook Libert, and his four children: Nicole Silveira and her three children Lia, John, Victoria; Kim Rushbrook Miller, her husband Edward and their three children Chelsea, Andrew, and Sandra; Amanda Rushbrook Zink-Schmidt, her husband Hugh Schmidt and their three daughters Madeline, Marian, and Maggie; Jeff Rushbrook, his partner Tabitha Bailey, and his two sons Joey and Austin. In addition, he has three great grandchildren Leland, Logan, and Mylo.
John retired from the Navy after 28 years of service. Eighteen of which were spent serving as an Independent Duty Corpsman with the Marine Corps and serving three tours of duty in Viet Nam.
After retiring from the military, he worked with Navy Mutual Aid Assoc. as a medical underwriter and provided counseling to military families covering rights and benefits.
He served as a contractor for DOD Health Affairs, traveling around the world and providing training to health providers on how to use the new Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR). Most recently he worked for Deloitte Consulting testing EHR software products.
The family would like to give special thank you to family and friends, Mary Weaver, Tish Smith, Barbara Smith, John Fanary, Carmen Rasmusen, Jessie and Katie Lilly, and Rocky Lohmann.
A celebration of John’s life will be conducted at 1:00pm Friday in the chapel of Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Sophia with Rev. Dave Rumberg officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until time of the service.
