Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph P. and Nora (Tamborella) Arruda, he was graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. As a Vietnam Era Veteran, he served in the United States Navy and the US Naval Reserve. During those first years of service, he served on the U.S.S. Princeton, participating in Operation Dominic-Nuclear testing in the Pacific. He also served his country during the period of the Cold War and retired with over 25 years of service. He was employed as a machine operator at Dover Stamping for several years. He spent the next 35 years working for the Massachusetts Highway and retired as CSIII.
Ron was a member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, New Bedford Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.
Originally from Fall River, he resided in Somerset for 49 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Swansea. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. His favorite hobbies included spending time with good friends, target shooting (pistol and rifle) and watching sports.
He is survived by his son Ronald Arruda, Jr. and his husband Greg Horne of Taunton; daughters, Kristine Arruda of Seekonk and Laurie Ferreira and her husband Steven of Swansea; his loving grandchildren, Jessica and her husband Christopher, Christopher and his wife Krystin, Lyndsey, Rachel, Steven, Meghan, and her husband Mike and adorable great grandchildren, Evelyn, Jaelin, Keira, Maddox, Raegan, Ava, and Adeline. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Marshall of Somerset. He was the brother of the late Joseph Arruda of Swansea and Gertrude Moller of Tiverton.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the Fall River Kidney Center, 48 Weaver St., Fall River, MA 02720 in memory of Ronald Arruda. Burial in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset.
