Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, a son of the late Robert Perry Brown and Gladys Irene (Rodgers) Brown, he spent his youth in Georgia and Florida before moving to Rhode Island. He has been a resident of Somerset for the past year.
A Veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam War in active combat and was an E-4 Sergeant drill instructor upon receiving an honorable discharge.
A Master Carpenter, he was the co-owner of the former A & J Construction Company. A skilled craftsman and avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and artillery.
He is survived by two daughters, Johnna Dimauro and her husband Nicholas of Somerset, Jessica LaBrecque and her husband Richard of East Providence; one son, John Brown Jr. and his wife Denise, of Bryceville, FL; one sister, Betty Brown of SD; one brother Irie Brown of FL; four grandchildren, Austin, Evelyn, Jonathan and Justin, one great-grandson Nathaniel and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William, Henry, Eddie, Evelyn, Fay, Jerry, Edna, Robert, Raymond, Eugene, and Bill.
He had the biggest, most honest and selfless heart. Family was everything and he made that evident. John lit up the room by just entering it and could tell you some astounding stories of a full life well lived that he faced head on, fearlessly. He will be greatly loved and missed by many.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 159 Waterman St., Providence, RI 02901, https://www.nature.org.
