Barbara A. Sowden

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late William and Cecilia (Carberry) McComb, she lived in Fall River before moving to Somerset in 1966. She was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart’s Academy and attended Bryant Business School.

An Accounts Clerk, she worked for L.S. Chase Company in Fall River for over 25 years, retiring in 2001. Mrs. Sowden coached the Panthers team for ASA softball in Somerset for several years and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Somerset. She was an avid New England sports fan.

She is survived by four sons; Christopher W. Sowden and his wife Cheryl of Swansea, Kevin R. Sowden and his wife Michelle of Noxen, PA, Brian M. Sowden and his wife Donna of Scituate, RI, James M. Sowden and his wife Gina of Somerset, two daughters; Lori A. Greenleaf and her husband Mark of Foster, RI and Melissa A. Yeaw and her husband Ted of Lisbon, NH, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was sister of the late Eileen Giard.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St. Somerset followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church 306 South Street, Somerset. Visiting hours Friday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
