Joseph Guinto, 90, of Syracuse, passed away Monday December 23, 2013 at Sedgwick Heights. Born in Syracuse to the late Nicholas and Angela (Picciotto) Guinto, he was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He met annually with his captain and other members from his Army unit for over 40 years. Joseph worked in sales for Town and Country Carpet and Linoleum for 32 years before retiring in 1988. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice (Kusinski) in 2011 and six sisters, Pauline, Genevieve, Esther, Frances, Sarah and Grace.
He is survived by 3 sisters; Angela (Lou) Romano, Nicoletta (Fred) Schimpff and Rosemary (Chuck Perolla) Shaver, all of Syracuse, 2 brothers; Patsy, of Syracuse and Anthony, of Tulsa, OK, a brother-in-law; Frank Cutrone, of Syracuse and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at Holy Family Church, Fairmount.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours are from 4 to 6 pm Thursday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210.
