Grandpa was greatly blessed having you near him. We all could only hope to have such loving, supportive children to care for and watch over us in our most difficult and final years. Thank you for all you did for him and I know he will always be with you. I love you.

Dad, I miss you so much, every day seems worse than the day before. Today I am planting your bleeding heart plant in my garden. All those "surprise" birthdays I planned for you are what I am holding on to today.I know you loved the museum of flight and the Paul Allen display at Boeing field. I remember telling you Dennis & I were taking you on a little overnight trip one year, you did not what to know where we were going, just worried that you did not have a passport! The ocean was great and we sure ate enough fresh crab! I loved the dinner train and the walk around the winery. Like I said, I have to hold on to the memories and glad we mad so many, just wish we could have made another one today.

I asked my daughter to share some memories that she has of her Great Grandpa Bill and this is what she said....She remembers going to Grandpa's house and sitting on his hammock and watching the geese squawk in their pins.  She remembers seeing Grandpa at his favorite pet store, Bridges and she remembers how much he loved going there.  Grace remembers how much he loved to garden and how proud he was of his vegetables.  She says she wishes she could have gone fishing with him.

Dear Grandpa,
You will never know how important it was to see you and what your words meant to me before you passed. You and I had such a strong relationship through my early adulthood and I have so many fond and fun memories to hold onto for the rest of my life. I will always regret not trying harder or communicating more with you in your final years....I will never know what caused the boundary between us, yet now I believe God will show you my heart was always true and that you were in it. Your light now shines through my wonderful Uncle Homer and Aunt Judy; I am so glad you had her by your side and you had such a deep love in this life. I miss you, will forever hold on to the many many great years and memories we had and hope you know each time I am at your resting place bringing you carnations as you did for my son.....Love you, Your Granddaughter, Becky

(Just a cute message from your youngest Great-Grandson). Brady asked his mother if they were going to see you today. Ruth told him, "no not today". Brady asked, " is he in the hospital,at Grandma Judy's or the other place"? 
Ruth said he was in Heaven. Brady seemed quite content and not upset, as he thought Ruth said "Kevin", his Dad's friend!

(Something I want to remember that made me smile, as it is so difficult for me Dad, with you not here).

Uncle Bill,
You always made me laugh and I will miss your smile and comic side of you. From the time I was young I always felt special to you since I was your God Daughter. You had a way of making us all feel special. I remember during the '75 flood when us kids had to leave the farm for a while I didn't want to stay anywhere else but at your house. We spent so many holidays there and boy I sure do miss Aunt Billie's jello salad! I will always cherish our trips to the fair, going out to restaraunts, the geese, your garden, all the little dogs and even Kojak! It brings me peace knowing you have been reunited with Aunt Billie and know you remembered to tell her hello from me.

Now with you gone and Hans, I have no one else to talk about those good times we had growing up on the farm.You always said,, even to to the end to me," those were good times on the farm".Those journeys you led us on in your explorations around the valley were always exciting to say the least.But you always got us home safel. 
 And of course, Your inventions you wouid create like hooking up an old model-T horn outside the house for our mother to call us in for dinner..Hooking up the lights in the old horsebarn haymow to play basket ball at night. which was a central activity spot with the neighbor kids also for years  Yoo definately were very inovative.I could go on and on. 
So i guess I wiii have to wait till I join you and Hans and we will resume our childhood days on the farm.

  Although Grandpa we drifted apart through out the years, Like my sister I remember our youth at your place during the summer walking around the lagoon and the popcorn at Christmas.  Going to Leavenworth and going to Boeing for the family events.  I remember staining your fence one summer and you offered me a V8 although it was like 85 degrees. I wish we could have fished on the banks of the mighty Snohomish together.  you well be missed .  Thank you for being a wonderful Father to my Mother and a Wonderful Grandpa to me.

I am so grateful that I got the chance to meet Bill.  The memories I have of Bill were that he loved his garden and loved to plant vegetables every spring.  I remember getting bags full of sweet cherry tomatoes and snap peas from him.  He was an interesting man and I loved hearing his stories.  He will be truly missed.  My deepest sympathy goes out to the Ulrich family.

Uncle Bill,

You will be greatly missed.  You always made me smile.  I will never forget how after I went through my chemotherapy;  You were trying to convince me that I definitely needed to acquire a big blonde Dollie Pardon wig to add to my wig collection.  You thought that would be a great look for me.

I always got a kick out of the friendly "garden" rivalry you had with my dad (Bob) and Uncle Hans. All 3 of you were avid gardeners.  You were known for growing the absolute BEST tomatoes. Uncle Hans swore you had some "secrets" to growing them in our wet WA weather and wish he could get a hold of those secrets!   

I will always remember you for your great sense of humor, your love of gardening, and your love for your animals.  Oh, and can't forget the tin of popcorn every Xmas.  Always a family favorite.

I know how much you missed Aunt Billie; I'm glad your able to be with her once again.

It was a true Blessing to have met and known Bill, his beautiful and warm smile will always stay within my heart's memory.  It was an honor to meet a real pioneer gentleman from Snohomish Valley. Bill,

I will so dearly miss you.  I was supposed to retire so that we would be able to do all those things when the whole world would finally slow down for me.

Through all of our times together, there is one thing I remember.  I could not visit you without figuring out a way to make you smile.

No matter where it was, at home or in the hospital in the last few months, your hand was out when I appeared and you always said:  "Hi, Dennis".  

It was always important to me that you knew that I was there and for that moment, that place, we both concentrated on one another.

You were a good father, a gentleman, and a friend.  You left to early.  Yet, you will always be there for me.

Like me, you did have a quirkly sense of humor.  I remember when you felt down, I got you to laugh.  I suggested that what we had to do was fix up the boat and consider one of those viking funerals.  

It was good to make you smile and laugh.

I remember the garden.  I remember you standing there sampling the beans.  I rember you constantly talking about your geese and that one in particular.  What was her name?

Anyway, I know where you are.  All good men go there.  You are with Billie and know no pain.  That is as it should be.  We will so dearly miss you.  We will think of you always.  

I am the better for having known you.

Rest easy with God as your guide.

An amazing, strong, funny, kind, and unselfish man you were and I will always remember your sayings, "summers gone" because you loved your beekeeping, flowers, and gardening. I still don't like to eat kohlrabi but I think they are beautiful and remember picking them with you; and "just plugging along" when asked how you were because you never wanted to complain about anything.  We both love our sweets and I enjoyed baking and bringing them to you.  I'm so glad that I finally perfected sugar cookies for you.  You will be greatly missed.  Love, your granddaughter Jackie

What a sweet man. I will truly miss him. The short time we've spent together. I will always cherish and hold dear and near my heart. From his Texas girl.

Most of my memories of my Uncle Bill  are from my childhood in the 1960's and 70's.  I grew  up on the Ulrich family farm that was started by Bill's parents and my grandparents.  My Dad (Bill's brother) and his other brother Hans went on to be partners in managing the farm.  My image of Bill as a child was as a bit of a rebel.  He was the one who moved off the farm into the "big city" Snohomish and took a job at Boeing where he had a long and successful career.  My Uncle Hans, who was famous for having nicknames for everyone, referred to Bill as Ludwig for the road in Snohomish he lived on, somehow in my mind defining him as unique.

During those years, I have lots of great memories of visits with Bill, his wife Billie and my cousins.  They frequently came out to the farm to visit my grandmother and we often spent Christmas together.  Bill and Billie were the ones we could always rely on for a huge tub of popcorn for Christmas.  

I will most remember Bill for his wit and sense of irony and humor.  He really loved joking around and exaggerating the truth.  He often personified himself as very cynical or cutting.  Hans' second nickname for him was Crock (based on the cartoon strip character).  I should note, Bill is not the only Ulrich that has those traits.

But underneath it all, he really did have a soft heart.  He always went out of his way to talk to us kids and build a personal relationship with us.  My clearest and fondest childhood memory of Bill involves one of those pictures of dogs dressed in suits playing poker that my grandmother had.  He had us kids convinced that the picture was magic.  He told us we better go check out that picture and when we did, there would be piles of loose change on the picture.  We really did think it was magic.  I'm not sure how long this went on, but I think it likely did for a couple of years and somehow we didn't figure out the magic picture only worked when Uncle Bill was at Grandma's house.

As time went on, I went off to college and then moved to Seattle and took up a fairly demanding career doing computer work.  I got married and had two kids.  Life got busy and the years have flown by, and regretfully, I have not had as many visits with Bill as I would have liked in my adulthood.

Looking back on things now, I have just now realized that Bill "the Ulrich rebel" did have an influence on me taking a different path forward in life in going to college, moving to Seattle, and taking on a career that is probably quite foreign to most farm boys.

Uncle Bill, thanks for being a positive influence in my life.  You are now reunited with your wife Billie.  Rest in peace.

I was fortunate in life to not only have a father, yet two
wonderful father figures; Uncle Homer and you. Thank you for your guidance and care through my life. I will cherish our trips to  Canada, Leavenworth, California; our debates; your yodeling, bird chirping; our walks around the lagoon; your strong work ethic and Boeing shows you took Larry and I to; the time we spent in your garden; all the fairs; your goofy sense of humor and funny tricks you played on people; the nicknames you had for everyone; how you made us eat our vegetables and now I love them all. How do I say goodbye? I am so sad for years we missed, yet so blessed to have so many memories with you.I loved you very much.

Dad, What do I do when it is 8:00 everynight and I cannot call you? How do  I do the weekly shopping, go the the fairs, plant a garden, attend services at Church or all the things we have shared so closely. There is a hole in my heart so big I could never have imagined. The most important things we have shared is our faith, honest understanding and love. I will miss you forever until I see you again.
