Beloved wife, mother, and grand-mother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life surrounded by family on September 14, 2015 in Everett, WA. Judith, born October 1, 1942 to Carl and Ruth Berg, and wife to John (Jack) Looney for nearly 49 years, lived a blessed life. Her adventures spanned many states and cities in the Northwest growing up first as a daughter of a logger, trucker, longshoreman, and fisherman and then later the supporting wife and domestic engineer in the advancing career of a railroad salesman. Seattle is home, but she has lived in: Tacoma, Mount Vernon, Ballard, and Forks, WA; Ashland, OR; Oakland, Pomona, West Covina, and Corona, CA; Houston, Galveston, and Southlake, TX; Harrington Park, NJ; St. Louis, MO; Omaha, NE; and Cedar Rapids, IA. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1961, attended Central Washington and Everett Community College studying home economics before choosing a career in medical assistance to oral surgery.
Motherhood and enriching the life of her family became her focus for many years during frequent relocations and settling new homes. She enjoyed crafting, cooking from scratch, painting, playing the accordion, travel, racquetball, camping and gardening while serving on many local committees in schools, parishes, and community organizations including the Junior League in NJ and Variety Club of Iowa. As her children grew she returned to the work force as a medical assistant, craft entrepreneur, and later Director for Pampered Chef Sales. She valued education and helped support her children through college and their entry into the workforce. Judith and John retired close to immediate family and enjoyed 16 years of retirement in the Everett and Ocean Shores, WA area. Judith was active with the American Cancer Society Relay For Life in honor of her grand-daughter, Bothell Sons of Norway, St. Michael's Parish School, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting and dance activities. She is survived by her loving husband, sons Andy Looney (Leanne) of Auburn, WA, Ken Looney of Everett, WA, Bob Looney (Kelly) of Lake Oswego, OR, and daughter Sheilah Looney (formerly Patridge) of Snohomish, WA, a brother Melvin Berg (Dianna) of Kirkland, a sister Karen Day (Charlie) of Mill Creek, and eight grandchildren: Alyson and Jack Looney of Auburn; Ethan, Quinn, Seth, and Bryce Looney of Lake Oswego, OR, and Madilyn and Meghan Patridge of Snohomish, WA. Judith will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Judith was a very caring and compassionate woman that would do anything for her family. Her family and her faith were her most valued treasures in life.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Judith's life will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 11:00AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1512 Pine Ave., Snohomish, WA 98290 with reception to follow. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
