Utilizing his golf skills, Jim began working at the Snohomish Golf Course where he earned membership in the Professional Golfers Association. Upon the opening of the Battle Creek Golf Course in Marysville, Jim moved to the new course as the head professional in 1991, and he was working at the course at the time of his death.
