Alice is survived by two of her daughters, Janet Hobson (husband Perry Hobson) and Mary Johnson (husband Bryan Johnson); her twin sister, Arlene Roberts of St. Paul, MN, six grandchildren and three great grandsons. Alice is preceded in death by two loving husbands, Leo Close and Clarence (Jack) Ady, who had both been best friends. Alice is also preceded in death by three of her children, Diane (DeeDee) Riley, Danny Close and Betty Varnam; Sister Ruthie Zerwas; Stepbrothers Fritz and Hugo; and stepsisters Lillie and Claudia.
Alice was born in Walker, Minnesota on April 16, 1928 to Ferdinard and Katharina Zink. She worked many different jobs from working at the post office to a waitress at Harvey’s Air Field. Alice always did all she could for her family, who was her world. Alice prided herself in taking excellent care of her husband and family and friends. She was a loving member of her community. Alice moved to Snohomish in 1968 because of her husband’s love of flying. That is where she lost her first love and found her second. She shared her husband’s love of flight and learned how to fly herself. Jack and Alice restored the 1929 Fairchild together, Alice handmade the 7 wicker seats in the Fairchild. Along with her love for flying, Alice loved to garden. She found such solace in the gardens of flowers. She would surprise Jack with new plants she planted as well as Jack surprising her with new plants to plant.
The funeral service will be held at Bauer Funeral Home on Saturday May 13, 2017 at 11:30am. A reception will follow at the funeral home as well as a graveside burial at 2pm the same day at G.A.R. Cemetery for those who would like to attend.
