Sarah Louise Battson Morgan, age 100, of Loganville, Georgia, passed from this life into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 22. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Howard Morgan, in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents John Mark & Mary Edice League Battson and by her brother Johnny Battson and sister Gena Whitworth, all of Lavonia, Georgia. Sarah is survived by her daughters Carole (late Gene) Nicholson and Jerri Peiffer and her son Nick (Bonnie) Morgan. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed a special place in her heart for her two nieces, Cheryl Slater and Patricia Whitworth, both of Franklin Springs, Georgia. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, “Nana” and “Gama” to her grandchildren, and friend to many. During her long life she was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and wanted her life to reflect praise to God for His love, forgiveness, and the blessings of salvation that she enjoyed through faith in Him.
After moving to Atlanta with her young family in 1957, Sarah was employed by the C & S Bank (10th St.), Rich’s department store (North DeKalb), and the VA hospital (Decatur), before retiring in 1988 from the CDC (Atlanta). In addition to her friendships with work associates, she enjoyed many wonderful friendships in the Baptist churches in which she was actively involved over the years, in the women’s Bible study (BSF) groups in which she participated, and in the neighborhoods in which she lived after each move.
Sarah enjoyed home-making, spending time with family, travel with family and friends, listening to Christian music and Bible teaching ministries, making things for her grandchildren, reading, and gardening.
The family would like to express grateful appreciation to the staff at The Retreat of Loganville for the love and care extended to Sarah during the last 21 months of her life, including a wonderful celebration on her 100th birthday. Also, appreciation is extended to the Family Hospice staff for their recent tender care of Sarah.
A visitation with the family will be held at the Eternal Hills Funeral Home, Snellville, Georgia 12-1 p.m on Friday, June 30 followed by a private graveside service with the family. A public “Celebration of Life” service for Sarah will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 at the Eternal Hills Funeral Home. Rev. Jimmy Wilson of First Baptist Church Loganville will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the First Baptist Church Loganville (680 Tom Brewer Road, Loganville, GA 30052) or another Christian ministry of your choice.
