Richard was born to Philip and Cecile Levesque Sept. 14, 1940 in Lewiston, ME. He attended St. Peter and Paul’s Parochial Schools, and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Maine (Orono) with his undergraduate degree in 1963 and his Master’s in Electrical Engineering in 1966. He worked for IBM in various locations for 30 years, including a year teaching engineering at Tuskeegee University from 1975-1976. He retired from IBM in 1992 from Southlake, TX and taught computer science at Georgia Piedmont Technological College in Clarkston, GA until 2011.
He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a longtime member of Spanish River Presbyterian Church in Boca Raton, FL where he served as an elder and a member of the ruling session. He was a supporter of the Creation Research Society and Ligonier Ministries. He enjoyed travel, reading, woodworking, astronomy, and jazz and Classical music. Since 1994, he was a member of Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Tucker, GA where he taught Sunday school and Bible studies.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Caron Levesque; his son, Richard J. Levesque Jr. of Monroe, GA; his daughter, Alice Viggiano of Bethlehem, GA; his granddaughter Amanda Rhea Scruggs and her husband Hunter Scruggs of Macon, GA; his brother Gerald Levesque and wife Dorothy of Seneca, SC; brother-in-law William Caron and wife Joyce of Azle, TX; nephews Charles Levesque of Swansboro, NC, and Jeremy Levesque of Charlotte, NC; nieces Christine Twardawski of Lebanon, OH, Jennifer Levesque of Seneca, NC, and Angela Kravantka of Palm Coast, FL. He is also survived by longtime friends Richard and Louise McClure of Georgetown, TX and Paul and Linda Lavoie of Bath, ME.
Memorial services will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, GA Jan. 14, 2022 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
