Our Missouri born father was one of five children raised in a  Christian home on a farm.  Like all "country kids" in the 20's and 30's, he rode a horse to school, raised his PET pig as a 4H project to sell, played the trumpet in his musical family.
After farming and his high school graduation, he became a coalminer before we were born.  I almost was a "coalminer's daughter"!
Actually we were children of a Naval Aviator, later an Aviator for the USMC.  Outside his military flying, he and his military plane were filmed in the "Sands of Iwo Jima" starring John Wayne.
Being a military family, we lived in all parts of the USA--- New York, Virginia, North Carolina, California, Maryland, Florida.  Our parents always encouraged us to look forward to new places and people as an adventure---never a dull moment!
We were fortunate; we were raised by Christian parents--- God first, family second, country third.  Dad served as a Deacon as well as teaching Sunday School to young men.  Dad loved his pastor and his church.  He served on the Board of Directors for HIGH HOPE, an organization for educating and training all handicapped children and young adults.  As a Shriner he was involved in many charitable events.  He had a BIG heart and loved people---never knew a stranger!
After the military, he joined Rich's of Atlanta(now Macy's) as one of their highest volume Sales Professionals for 20 plus years.  He was a natural.
Upon retirement, he found deer hunting and bowling to be enjoyable.  It was not unusual for him to bowl everyday!
Randy loved his God, his country, his friends and family.  At 89-1/2 years of age, he outlived many of his friends and family but he was still very active until December 20, 2010.
We miss him but know he is in God's presence, rejoicing with Mom and other loved ones.
Thank you God for giving us Dad and Mom who both shared Jesus with us.

What a wonderful privilege to have a Father-in-law like Randy.  He accepted me as part of his family from day one.
He also was a friend ---ready to do anything to help if needed.
He and I enjoyed going places together, especially to Missouri where he grew up---talking about his youth and his teenage days with family, friends, and old cars.

He left a void in our lives that we will never be able to fill.  
We know where he is and hope to see him again---
just not real soon.

I miss my Dad very much.
I think about what he was as a Father to me ---taking me to church.
He taught me how to swim, drive a car
and how to bowl.
He was always such a close Father and my Friend.
After I lost my Mom, my Dad was my everything.  We went everywhere together.  Going out to eat was always good and taking trips with him was fun.
I will always miss him and 
            "I LOVE MY DAD".

The governing Committee of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry has approved a waiver of dues for Brother B.Randall Hurst.  He has been a good and loyal member for many years and we see it appropriate that we return this loyalty.  Brother Hurst will remain a valued member of our organization.

God took the strength of a   
            mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,

Our deepest sympathy is expressed in the loss of Randal. I experienced some pleasant years bowling with Randal and Richard at the Snellville Bowling Center. He will always be remembered as gentleman and a scholar. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in his loss.
