William Larry Smith, 66, of Loganville, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014, in Atlanta. Larry was born on January 8, 1948 in Statesboro, GA to Daniel and Vera Smith. He was a Gwinnett County resident for over 44 years. Larry was an educator and retired from Gwinnett County Public Schools after serving as principal at Lawrenceville, Dyer and Benefield Elementary Schools, where several of his students went on to become teachers because of him. He was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan, loved the outdoors and camping, was an avid reader and writer, loved history and genealogy and had a wonderful sense of humor. Larry volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of Master Gardeners of Gwinnett and Grayson United Methodist Church’s Handy Hands and Transportation Angels. But most of all, Larry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janis Smith of Loganville, daughters Karen Ramey and husband Shannon of Atlanta and Kelly Smith of Atlanta, granddaughter Megan Ramey, sisters Edra Wrye and Audrey Bennett of Macon, brother-in-law Rev. Dennis Lewallen and wife Gail of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Eternal Hills Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Grayson United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.
