Joyce Lynn Luke

Joyce Luke was born on September 14, 1958 in Cleveland, OH, to Theodore and Geneva (Sanders) Battle. She was the middle of three siblings; Ronnie Battle (Cleveland, OH) and Oliver Battle (Cleveland, OH).

Joyce was baptized in January 1974 at Everlasting Baptist Church, under the late Pastor Leroy Smith. She attended Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from Glenville High School in June 1976. She went on to pursue further education and later became a valuable asset within the administrative medical profession.

Joyce married Douglas Luke on March 23, 1980. This union blessed them with two beautiful daughters, Cheronda Battle Luke of Charlotte, NC and Cherita Luke-Gouch (Herman Gouch) of Stone Mountain, GA. She was blessed to have lived a life that allowed her to explore and live in Cleveland, OH; Long Beach, CA and later settled in Atlanta, GA. She and her husband were then blessed to raise their two nieces and nephew, Latrice Adams (Hampton, GA), Leonard Adams (Cleveland, Ohio), and Taiesha Adams (Hampton, GA). She was active in the lives of her grandson Ezekio Gouch (Stone, Mountain, GA), granddaughter, DeJah Turner (El Paso, TX) and her beautiful grandnieces Kyndall Gibson (Hampton, GA) and KoreighAdams (Hampton, GA).

Joyce was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She loved traveling and was an adamant shopper. She lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was not fearful and wanted to live in the moment and went after any and everything life had to offer.

It is a bittersweet, yet poetic moment to know that Joyce departed this life April 11, 2019, twenty years to the date of the passing of her mother, Geneva Battle. We know that the two have truly been reunited and that her mother held her hand during her transition.

Joyce was preceded in death by her Brother Oliver Battle, Father Theodore Battle and Mother Geneva Battle.

Joyce leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, children, grandchildren, brother, and a host of nieces and nephews. We know that she was truly loved and respected by many.
