McClain, Jack B (Blades), age 99 of Suwanee, GA passed away on December 5, 2020. He was the son of Walter Jack McClain (WWI) and Nell Jane Frith McClain. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Archer McClain. He attended the University of Alabama for Accounting. While at school on Dec 7, exactly 75 years ago, he listened to his radio and to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This led to his enlistment in the Army Air Core in Communications. He turned his skills from WWII into a lifelong hobby as an Amateur Radio Operator. In his earlier years he was W4KNW and later advancing to Amateur Extra as AE4Q. He worked for AT&T for 38 years retiring in 1986. He was an Engineer. He became a member of the Telephone Pioneers after retirement. He also belonged to a local veteran’s group that met every Saturday at Sweet Apple Donuts and was the highlight of his week for many years. He leaves behind a daughter, Wendy McClain Stricklin (Don) and three grandchildren: Jack, Katie and Christie Stricklin. The visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 9th from 5 – 7pm. A graveside service will be Thursday, December 10th at 2pm Eternal Hills with Rev Elaine Puckett officiating.
