Mrs. Massey, born in Carrollton, GA on December 29, 1925, was the daughter of the late Thomas Erastus Chambers and the late Lonie Lee Chambers. She went to Martha Berry School for Girls, graduating from High School in 1944 and to Berry College graduating in 1948 with a BS in Education. Berry is where she met her future husband William Howard Massey, and they were married on February 13, 1949.
Mrs. Massey touched many young lives as an educator over her lengthy career retiring from the DeKalb County Schools, where for many years she taught Business courses at Stone Mountain High School. She loved the Lord and was a Charter Member at Maranatha Baptist Church and attended there since 1979. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible Studies and was a member of the Senior Saints and Ruth Fellowship.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Carly Christine Massey and two great grandchildren, Hagia Lumar Rabern and Magdelena May Rabern, her sister Verna Hayes of Newnan, GA, and brother Tommy (Norene) Chambers of Carrollton, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband William Howard Massey, and her two sons, William Michael Massey and Phillip Thomas Massey.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Massey will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday August 13th at the Chapel of Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA, with Reverend Caleb Stallings officiating. Burial will follow the service at Eternal Hills Memory Garden. The family will receive friends prior to the Service at the Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maranatha Baptist Church, 3340 Five Forks Trickum Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047 or to Berry College, PO Box 495018 Mount Berry, GA 30149-5018.
Pallbearers include Brian Chambers, Dalton Connally, Dylan Connally, Buck Fowles, Joel Hayes, and Nick Winkles. Honorary Pallbearers are Grant Chambers, Milton Chambers, Walker Connally, Mark Formby, Darrell Hayes, Logan Hayes, Noah Hayes, Perry Hayes, and Chet Winkles.
