Carolyn Hembree passed away peacefully on February 26, 2023. During her final days, she was surrounded and supported by her adoring family. Carolyn was born on November 30, 1932, in Linton, Indiana, to the late Robert and Alice Raney. The majority of Carolyn’s early years were spent in Fort Meyers, Florida, where she loved spending time at the beach and boating on the Gulf of Mexico. Carolyn received her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Florida State University. While residing in Tallahassee she met her husband, Richard Hembree. They were married for 36 years until his death in 1991. She moved to the Atlanta area, and began working at Emory University in the clinical research laboratory. Carolyn later settled in Grayson, Georgia, where she lived alongside her family until her passing.
While living in Grayson, Carolyn attended Grayson United Methodist Church, where she loved being a Sunday school teacher, as well as serving fellow parishioners during Wednesday night supper. She enjoyed studying the Bible, praising the Lord, and always offering a helping hand to others. Carolyn loved travelling around the country with her closest girlfriends. She adored spending time with her beloved family, and was often seen laughing and smiling. She radiated love and kindness to everyone she met. She was a selfless, compassionate, and giving person who always thought of others. She was a loyal wife, most beloved mother, and world’s best grandmother, GG, and friend. She will be greatly missed. “To know her was to love her.”
Carolyn leaves her loving memory to her three children; her oldest daughter preceded her in death and she is survived by her two adult children and their spouses, 7 grandchildren and their spouses, and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Snellville, Georgia on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11 am.
