Carmen Joan Jarrett was born on February 27, 1931, to Mr. Gordon Leopold Hoskins and Ms. Eileen Roberta Morrison in Duanvale, Trelawny, Jamaica. Eileen later married Thomas Henlon also fondly referred to by Carmen as Daddy. Carmen was the oldest of seventeen siblings whom she dearly loved.
As a child, Carmen attended primary and secondary school in Jamacia. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic and personable demeanor. She was a fast learner who quickly elevated from intern to employee at her first job with the Jamaican Postal Department. Carmen migrated to Brooklyn, New York (NY) in September of 1968. She continued to be a stellar employee and worked as an account manager for Harry Fox Agency until her retirement in 1996.
Carmen’s life was most defined by her love for God and for people. She knew the source of her strength and every blessing in her life. She was a faithful member who served with humility and excellence in her years at Hastings Baptist Church in Jamaica, then at Evergreen Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY and finally at White Oak Hills Baptist Church, Stone Mountain, Georgia until her death. She was also a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY until the summer of 1996. She was a Church clerk at Hastings Baptist Church in Jamaica and Evergreen Baptist Church. She also taught Sunday School and was a choir member in Jamaica, Evergreen Baptist Church, and White Oak Hills Baptist Church.
Carmen was a lifetime student always ready to learn in any area that she could grow. She was an avid reader, a skilled artisan who took great pleasure in learning and making various crafts that she would gift to friends and family. She believed in excellence as a child of God and discipled many to live out their God ordained lives.
Carmen married Beresford Jarrett on June 15, 1958. Throughout their forty-eight years of marriage, they fondly referred to each other as B and C. She is proceeded in death by her husband and son Kennedy Jarrett; sisters Eunice Henlon, Barbara Williamson (Herman), and Neva Cameron; brothers Curtis Henlon, Noel Hoskins, and Donald Hoskins (Hazel).
Mourning her death are her daughter Sonia Davis and son Woodrow Jarrett (Jennifer); grandchildren, Owen Davis, Dwyane Davis (Urania), LaFaye Hawkins, Victoria Jarrett, Alexis Lott (Kendarius), Chelsea Massengill (Donte), Caleb Jarrett (Janei), and Kayla Jarrett; great-grandchildren: Khairi Davis, Ethan Davis, Elias Davis, Zoey Hawkins, Elizabeth Davis, Boston Lee, and Aria Massengill; sisters Alda Nelson, Esmin Dixon (Lewis, deceased), Leonie Buckner (Winston, deceased), Olivet Lawrence (Clinton, deceased), Claudia Edwards (Stanley) and Lena Dixon (Noel); sister-in-law Pauline Davis; brothers: Edward Churchill Henlon (Orinthia), Basil Hoskins, Cedric Hoskins, and Delroy Hoskins; a special nephew Brian Davis; a myriad of nieces and nephews, cousins and close family friends.
A visitation for Carmen will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Eternal Hills Funeral Home and Cremation, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM at White Oak Hills Baptist Church, 5171 Redan Rd, Stone Mountain, GA 30088. A graveside service will occur at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039.
