Sorry to hear about Bryon's passing.  I'll always remember being a member of the choir he directed while he was at Good Shepherd
Church.  I particularly appreciated his "spit and polish'', no
non-sense attitude about how programs were to performed.

His  solo performances  were marvelous, exhibiting perfect
style, both musically and  in his professional demeaner.

We have had a remarkable friendship with the Jone’s for about 48 years and have shared many celebrations along the way.  
Byron, we will miss you but will listen for your beautiful spirit as we continue to cherish our friendship with Jean.

This is the second of three messages from Wilson and Cheryl Lee
One of our fondest memories took place at the Benihana restaurant on the Intracoastal Waterway in Ft. Lauderdale.  We were invited to dinner with Byron and Valliere (or Jean – as we continue to call her by that name today, Byron’s soulmate all these years).  (You need to know that Wilson and Cheryl were only dating.  Wilson, being a bachelor, was certainly “playing the field” at the hospital).   As Wilson and Cheryl walked to the table, Byron announced in his baritone and commanding voice – “Here they are, the future Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Lee”!  Byron predicting our engagement and eventual marriage that night and his vision led to our joyous union.

The beginning of Jones’s and Lee’s lifelong friendship began in 1973.  It was at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.  Byron came to Holy Cross Hospital as the Manager of Environmental Services for ServiceMaster replacing another Manager.  Wilson was already at Holy Cross Hospital as one of the Assistants Managers of the Department.  Byron and Wilson were a fantastic team, complementing one another in their style.  Byron was Wilson’s mentor not only at Holy Cross but throughout these years of our friendship.


Byron has been a part of my life from my first memories where we worshipped and sang in choirs together.  I marveled at his voice long before I was allowed in the choir and attended choir rehearsals with my mother where  I was privileged to hear him solo at our beloved Main Street Baptist Church.   In my 20's, Byron sang multiple concerts and revival meetings and I often was his accompanist.  We worked together at Southside Methodist Church.  He stood up for Merv and me at our wedding and he and Valliere remained our constant friends to this day.  We will miss him greatly.  Now it will be my sad task to play for his memorial service.

I remember with fond memories the joyful Christmas celebrations that were held at your beautiful home and the gracious kindness Mr. Byron showed to us all.

My dear Ms. Vallerie and family,

My heart aches for your loss.  Mr. Byron was a kind, sweet and loving husband.  

I remember him so well entertaining us with sumptuous dinner during our yearly Christmas get together and his precious smile and  gentlemanly manners.

I will cherish my memories about him always!

As a friend and forever neighbor of Byron's - the words Man's Man come to mind.   He had all the right stuff (and knew exactly where it was), knew how to use it (the right way) and was always happy to loan a tool (clean it and bring it back timely) or lend a hand.   He had the rare combination enjoying getting dirty and then later preparing a fine meal and selecting just the right wine.    After becoming his neighbor in '89, it didn't take long to see beyond that gruff exterior to the heart of man who loved my kids and was a teacher to them (ok, us) all about life, love and what Jesus meant by "The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”   And regardless of advertising to the contrary - in my world - Byron Jones was the World's Most Interesting Man !!!  See you on the other side my friend.
