October 31, 2018. He is remembered mostly for his hearty, infectious laughter and his funloving
spirit. He came from humble beginnings and upon graduating from high school,
enlisted in the Navy where he served at the Pacific front in Peleliu. After the war, he
graduated from University of Georgia where he met his bride Lillian Roxanna Gillen. He
graduated with a degree in business and married in 1948. He enjoyed a long career in
sales. Although his vocation required frequent travel, he always put family first. He was a
hands-on dad full of joy and laughter with a healthy measure of tough love. He was
preceded in death by their daughter, Lisa Roxanna Pippenger. and his wife, Lillian. He is
survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Auston H. Gray, Jr., M.D. and Karen Gray of
Sumter, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Doug Fleming of Columbia, SC,
Melanie and Barry Gonzalez of Tarpon Springs, FL; grandchildren Andy Fleming, Ginger
Fleming Van Vooren, Tony Pritchett, Anne Marie Pritchett, Brian Gray, Benjamin Gray and
Emily Gray; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Gray, Carter Van Vooren, Lilly Pritchett, Austin
Fleming, Rhys Du Toit, Hudson Pritchett, Rowan Du Toit, Ryland Du Toit, Lanier Pritchett.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, November 4 from 2:00-3:00 at
Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039. In lieu
