Thomas F. Mello, 68, originally of Warwick, RI, passed away on Sunday November 13, 2011 at his home in Canaan, Maine.
He was born March 30, 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Edward A. Mello and Dorothy (Howard) Mello.
He graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School in Warwick, RI in the class of 1961. From 1961 – 1965 Thomas served in the US Air Force. He served one tour of duty in the Vietnam War on a C130 as a loadmaster. After being honorably discharged from the military, Thomas then attended and graduated from Roger Williams University in Providence, RI with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Donna Wilcox on June 25, 1966 in Apponaug, RI.
Thomas worked for more than 40 years in the Environmental Engineering field for various employers over the years and he was presently employed as a consultant for Watson, Marlow & Bredel in Wilmington, MA.
He was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed going for walks in the woods, cutting trees and loved working on cars; at the age of 14 he won an award for building a cast metal car. He also loved his dog “Charlie” who passed away in 2010, and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Donna W. Mello of Canaan, Maine, his four children; Thomas F. Mello and his wife Jodi of San Diego, CA, Matthew A. Mello and his wife Christine of Lewis Center, Ohio, Benjamin J. Mello and his wife Melissa of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Heather-Rebekah Mello of Sudan, Africa, one twin brother Edward A. Mello and his wife Judy of Boca Raton, FL, five grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin James, Nicholas, Zachary, Julianne, step-grandchildren David and Michael and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be set at a later date in the spring of 2012 in Foster, RI.
