Sandra Lucille Padgett, 72, of Canaan, wife of James L. Padgett Sr. passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2016 in Portland, Maine. Sandra was born on September 9, 1944 and was the daughter of Willy H. and Mildred L. Ray whom raised her in Yuba City, California.
Sandra attended Live Oak High School in California and graduated in 1962, where she met the love of her life; James L. Padgett Sr. Sandra and James got married in Reno, Las Vegas on October 10, 1964. Sandra became a stay at home mother following the birth of her first child, Carroll in 1970. She was a wonderful and caring mother to all of her six children; Carroll, James, Edmond, Aaron, Ella and Jeffery Padgett. Sandra always had a positive outlook on life and had a wonderful influence and impact on each of her children’s lives. She emphasized the importance of family and caring for others. Sandra moved all across the United States with her husband James L. Padgett who was an active member of the United States Navy. Every place she stayed, she was welcomed by all and was able to lend a helping hand.
Sandra moved from Chesapeake Bay, Virginia to Canaan, Maine in 1990 with her husband and children. Sandra’s five children attended and graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in Maine and her oldest daughter Carroll graduated from Chesapeake High School in Virginia. Sandra watched her children grow into adults with her youngest child Jeffery turning 30 years old. Sandra and James had many close friends and relatives in the Bangor/ Skowhegan and Waterville area.
She is survived by her loving husband James L. Padgett, of Canaan, Maine, and her six children; Carroll Delbaugh, of Canaan, Maine, James Padgett and his wife Melissa Padgett of Perrysburg, Ohio, Edmond Padgett of Richmond, VA, Aaron Padgett of Clinton, Maine, Ella Padgett of Canaan, Maine, Jeffery Padgett and his wife Kellie Padgett of Readfield, Maine. She will be remembered by her brothers Ed Ray and his wife Polly Ray of Marysville, CA, Harold Ray and his wife Patricia Ray of Bangor, Maine and her sister Rebecca Baker of Wellsboro, PA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Jacob Reynolds, Cooper and Jacoby Padgett and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved spending her days watching, playing and spoiling her grandchildren. Sandra will be greatly missed by all her friends and family and all of the people who were able to meet her kind and loving heart. She will be remembered by every life she touched.
A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held on Saturday October 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Blood Bought Church, 866 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Oakland, Maine, with Pastor Dean Marston officiating.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
