Richard Roger Perkins Sr.

He was born August 18, 1937 in Madison, Maine the son of Charles M. Perkins and Marjory M. (Taylor) Perkins. He completed his education in the Madison school system and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 through 1957.

Following his military service he attended cooking school in Lewiston, Maine which began his cooking career in local restaurants including Ken’s Family Restaurant in Skowhegan where he was known for his baking skills.

Dick enjoyed fishing, camping with family and collection model cars. He had a lifelong passion for music which he and his wife shared with the Nazarene Church and local nursing and boarding homes bringing Christian music to the residents.

Richard leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Foster) Perkins; daughters Laurie of Skowhegan and Pamela of Cornville and son Richard Jr., of Portland; granddaughters Rebecca Shute of Skowhegan, Chelsie Shute of Mercer and Lindsey Shute of Arizona; great grandchildren Angelina, Colton, Mikayla and Taivon; brothers Erlon Perkins and his wife Anita of Anson and Glenwood Perkins, address unknown, several nieces and nephews and special sister-in-law Catherine Perkins of Cornville and dog Buddy, his best friend and partner in crime.

He was predeceased by his parents; Brothers Charles, Robert and Roland and sisters Dolline and Carol.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday September 17, 2010 at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. Funeral Service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Skowhegan, Saturday September 18, 2010 at 11 a.m., burial to follow at Collins Cemetery, West Ridge Road, Cornville, Maine.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
