C. Pearline (Perch) Walker passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in her own home on Thursday June 16. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother always there to support her family and friends.
She is survived by her son Andrew Walker, his wife Ann Walker, daughter in-law Karen Walker, and her two grandchildren Sarah and Tori Walker. She was able to spend time with them as they all lived closed by. She was predeceased by her husband Willard (Bill) Walker her son Christopher (Tad) Walker and her granddaughter Kathryn Brewer Walker. She leaves behind many extended family members in Michigan and beyond.
Perch wore many hats including one as a member of the Red Hat Society. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Cornville. She was a gourmet cook who loved cooking for her husband Bill. She had many entrepreneurial ventures over the years including the Skowhegan Downs Karttrak and the Pearl Door in Canaan.
Perch loved to travel, whether extensively in the states, or an overnight in Portland with her granddaughters, a tour in Vancouver, a cruise in the Caribbean and trips to Russia, Europe, Japan, China and Australia. She always loved to go to new places and try new things.
Perch and Bill were both active long standing members of Canaan Grange #239. When it became apparent the Grange would fold, she rallied the forces to preserve the building which is now known as the Canaan Farmers Hall where she was an original board member. She also served as board member for the Canaan Library and through dedication and hard work with others assisted with the building and transition of the new Canaan Library and the transformation of the building to become the new Canaan Historical Society.
She will be greatly missed but remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She lived a good life and made the best of it.
The family would like to express great thanks to Marcia and Community Health & Counseling Services for their excellent care as well as her many caregivers for their love and support over the last two and a half years.
There will be a Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, July 10 at 5PM at the Canaan Farmers Hall on Main St. in Canaan. Please visit www.SmartandEdwardsFH.com to share your condolences with Perch's family.
