Solon – Patricia A. Carmichael, 60-68-ish, passed away gracefully on Thursday, July 30, 2015 surrounded by her family after a brief scuffle with cancer. She was born in Newton, MA on September 9, 1946 the daughter of Thomas and Sylvia (Davis) Curtin. Pat was raised in Acton, MA and graduated from Acton High School, Class of 1964.
Pat married Wayland Carmichael in 1965. In 1976 they moved to Maine to raise their family. For 32 years, she thoroughly enjoyed working in the Nutrition Services department at Redington-Fairview General Hospital where she was known by all as “Kitchen Pat”. She loved working in the kitchen, where she did a little bit of everything, including being the self-appointed welcoming committee and decorator. For many years she expertly decorated the cafeteria for every season and holiday, and always looked forward to the hospital’s annual BBQ and Christmas party.
Pat cherished her family and she loved nothing more than to shop with them, and for them. She was a seasoned bargain hunter who could always find a great deal, including the oddest of gifts she loved to give. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and collecting baskets.
Pat is survived by her children, Jeffrey Carmichael of Pittsfield and Debra Carmichael Scruggs of Bangor; granddaughter Danielle Carmichael; great granddaughter, Alexis (AKA “Lexie Lou”); brother, David Curtin and wife Barbara of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Diane Doe and her husband Walter of NH; brothers-in-law, Perley Carmichael and wife Kathy of VA and Weldon Carmichael of Norridgewock; sisters-in-law, Gloria Harris of Winslow and Rae-Jean Carmichael of Norridgewock; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1995, her parents, and brother-in-law, Larry Harris.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat’s life at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, at the home of Rae-Jean Carmichael, 42 Carmichael Dr., Norridgewock. Guests are encouraged to honor Pat by wearing bright colors that Pat most enjoyed. A private interment will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.

Pat’s family extends their deepest appreciation to Rae-Jean for the compassionate care and companionship she provided Pat in her final months. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the support and care provided Beverly Patrie, and by the Hospice team including Michelle, Catherine, Jen and Erica. In their time of need, they were also comforted by Hospice Chaplain Julianne Bosquet and Rev. Mark Tanner.
