He was born November 12, 1929, in Clinton, Maine, the son of Irvin and Ora (Lewis) Holt.
Omar was educated in the Clinton schools.
He married Theresa Tuttle on April 28, 1951 in Canaan, Maine.
For more than 55 years Omar owned and operated the Holt Family Farm in Canaan, he was a sawyer with his family for many years doing custom sawing. He owned his own milk route in the 1950’s where he picked up fresh milk in ten gallon cans from area towns and delivered it to the United Farmers in Detroit, Maine. Omar also worked as the manager for Massey-Ferguson at Canaan Equipment. He worked as a logger in the woods during the 60’s, 70’s and 1980’s, and during the 1980’s and 90’s and after he sold his cows, he contracted with the State of Maine working on many area road jobs with his bulldozer.
Omar was a member of the Carrabassett Masonic Lodge in Canaan for more than 50 years, and a life time member of the fair association in Skowhegan. He was a founding member of the Eaton Mountain Ski Area and was also on the board of directors. In the 1970’s Omar was a selectman for the Town of Canaan. He was also a 50+ year member of the Canaan Grange.
Omar was predeceased by his wife and sweetheart of 47 years, Theresa . He was also predeceased by his mom and dad, and a brother Richard Holt.
He is survived by his four children, Pat Bowman of Canaan, Michael Holt and his wife Betsy of Canaan, Ricky Holt and his wife Cathy of Dixmont, Ronald Holt and his wife Linda of Canaan; two brothers, Gerald Holt and his wife Glennis of Benton, Tim Holt and his wife Alana of W. Gardiner; two sisters, Faye Lebreque of Waterville, Lucille Simpson and her husband Joseph of Winslow; 11 grandchildren, Manda, Steven, Megan, Corey, Kristin, Travis, Daniel, Samantha, Dustin, Michele, and Joseph Jr.; 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of close friends living and dead.
Viewing hours will be held on Thursday May 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, with a funeral service to be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 10a.m. at the funeral home, with a burial to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Canaan, Maine.
