She was born October 5, 1951 in Bellows Falls, Vermont, the daughter of Macolm and Mary E. Bailey.
She graduated from high school in Warner, New Hampshire.
Michelle taught sign language in the greater Skowhegan and Fairfield areas.
She was an active member of the Day Spring Chapel in Madison, Maine. She volunteered for the Relay for Life and for the “Cat in the Hat” at Rite Aid reading to children. Michelle loved to write and she was working on writing a second book and also loved writing poetry.
Michelle loved being a grandmother.
She is survived by her mother Mary E. Bailey of Seabrook, NH, her four children; Rebecca Austin and her husband Keith of Berwick, Cynthia Dionne and her husband David of Beverly, MA, Todd Smart of Skowhegan, Christopher Smart and his wife Amber of Norridgewock, her grandchildren; Benjamin Valencia and Blaine Austin of Berwick, Kristin, Courtney, Maximus and Summer Smart of Skowhegan, Christopher Smart of Norridgewock, one great-grandson; Jayce Valencia of Berwick, her sister Theresa Bailey and her husband Steve Gambino of New Castle, Delaware.
She was predeceased by her father.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, with Pastor Dell Wing Officiating.
